DESCRIPTION: Clocks- 3 (Three) Comtoise wall clocks: (1) France, Comtoise clock, 8 day, time and strike, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in an iron post and plate frame, 9 inch faïence dial with large Roman numerals, single brass hand, flat pierced brass fronton, two pivoted brass winding arbor shutters, mid 18th Century. (2) France, Comtoise wall clock, 8 day, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in an iron post and plate frame, 8.5 inch enamel dial with flat center and convex chapter, large Roman numerals, and single brass hand, mid 18th Century. (3) France, Comtoise "lantern" clock, 8 day, time and strike, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum outside the plate in an iron post and plate frame, 7.75 inch faïence dial with large Roman numerals in dark blue, single brass hand, resting on turned brass feet, topped by flat brass fronton flanked by two turned brass finials, two pivoted brass winding arbor covers, mid 18th Century.
CONDITION: (1) Earthenware dial is broken into many pieces. Side doors are absent. Iron and steel movement parts have some light rust. Crown wheel arbor support has some turned details. Strike train relies on springs, rather than internal counterweights. Wood winding drums have splits. Four-blade iron fly. Linkage from crutch to pallet arbor will need to be reconnected. Clock does not come with weights or pendulum. Sold by Ivoire Saint-Etienne on June 2nd, 2012, lot number 21 (2) Flat brass fronton is missing. Newer cast bell. Hand has been restored. Suspension shroud measures 4.25 inches. Turned details on escape wheel arbor support. Four blade iron fly. Strike trains uses springs, rather than counterweights. Movement will need servicing. Sold by Ivoire Saint-Etienne on October 13th, 2012, lot number 46. (3) Iron parts with surface rust. Finely cut crown wheel. Upper wheels in trains with only three crossings. Escape wheel arbor support is crudely made and probably replaced. Short suspension hanger has no shroud, and probably never did. Linkage between crutch and pendulum is absent. The clock does not come with weights or pendulum. Door pins will need to be repaired. The bell is signed "Dubois Pere Aupuy ". Sold by Ivoire Saint-Etienne on October 13th, 2012, lot number 27. Dimensions are for the clock with blue numerals (3). Sold "as is ".
